W39 - West Side Bistro and Bakery

For those living where the sun sets over this sunny island, don't you find it a pain that there are not many noteworthy cafes in the west? Thankfully, W39 has opened in an idyllic corner nestled in that oft-overlooked part of the Lion City. The cafe, tucked at the side of an old shophouse, reminds the two lions of a brighter and cheerier cross between Baker & Cook and Kith Cafe.

 

Located at Clementi West, W39 sits along the little road of Jalan Mas Puteh. The Lions were delighted to see this Oasis in the midst of old bicycle shops and other hardware stores. 

W39 is the brainchild of 2 sisters and is actually a bistro and bakery. Boosting an array of European dishes that is subtly enhanced by local ingredients, W39 also has their own range of breads. On that day, the Lions were there for the weekend brunch.

The lions heart the happy and relaxing vibe. Check out the colourful knick knacks and nostalgic snacks.

Cafe Latte
Good consistency. The milk is not too overwhelming, making it a perfect cuppa. Beans from Highlander.

Long Black
A very well-balanced long black. Cute Cute always like his long black strong and smooth and the W39 managed to get his coffee right.

Hearty Breakfast
For the price, the portion sure was generous. Love the evenly-toasted bread.

Nasi Lemak with spiced chicken leg

Cuchi enjoyed her nasi lemak. The humongous chicken leg was crispy with a hint of spice (the meat inside could have been better marinated though) and the poached egg was a welcomed slant to the otherwise local dish. The only lamentation from Cuchi was that the chilli was not spicy enough for her.

The Lions enjoyed W39 that lazy Saturaday morning. Food was good, service was warm and the ambience delightful. Worth many repeat visits!
