Going MAD (Modern Asian Diner)

Lovely day, checked! Feeling hungry, checked! Going Mad..... checked? That was what Cuchi suggested to Cute Cute when his tummy was rumbling. Hmm... Cute Cute had a business lunch there and had promised to bring Cuchi after the positive feedback from associates. He also recalled seeing Dick Lee taking photos of the quirky restaurant when he was at Turf City, The Grandstand.  MAD, short for Modern Asian Diner, is inspired by Dick's wacky persona - The Mad Chinaman.

Modern Asian Diner is an ingenious collaboration by 5 homegrown parties,
namely: Tung Lok, Bar Stories, Bakerzin, Dick Lee and Top Wines.
Each party brings a different f&b concept to the table.
What a great multisensorial experience!
Bespoke cocktails, check! Gourmet bakes, check!
Sensual Reds, checks! East-meets-West tim sum and tapas, check!
Stepping in, you are greeted first by the cafe serving bakes by
Bakerzin. The light pine wood accents coupled with the high ceiling
gave the place a refreshingly breezy feel. Great for girly tête-à-têtes
and afternoon teas.
Playful colours dominate the spacious seating area.
The Mad Chinaman's flamboyance becomes more
apparent as you head up the stairs to the main restaurant.
A riot of bold colours at the tapas counter.
Bright violet booth seats set against the mono-black walls.
Retrolicious orange rattan chairs complete the look.
Long tables are available for huge groups.
Even the colours on the electronic menu
scream unabashedly for your attention. LOL.
Ordering is a breeze via the iPad.
Wow the dishes come quick and they pile up fast.
Could not snap pictures quick enough before they were devoured
by hungry lunch-mates.  Some of them that did the vanishing act
before they were captured were: Gyoza with White Wine Cream,
Prawn Dumpling with Brooth, X.O Purple Rice Roll, Wild Mushroom
Dumpling, Prawn Pumpkin, Black Angus Beef Siew Mai,
and Crispy Egg Yolk Bun.

Seafood Pastry with Avocado
Crispy Mango Prawn Roll
Scallop and Octopus Siew Mai
Beef Spring Roll. Impressive length ;p
Pork Ribs with Black Truffle
Prawn Beancurd Roll
The grand finale with desserts making their apperance.
First up was the crystal balls (red bean, custard & sesame)
with banana pancake.
Snow Pear Consomme
Chilled Avocado Sago
Kah Tequila's handcrated bottles especially the mini ones
are beautiful collector's items. No two bottles are the same.
Sit at the bar counter while the mixologist concocts
a cocktail according to your current state of mind.
Retail items with Dick Lee's stamp of approval.
Postcards that hark back to a bygone era.
Chic plates and other tableware made from recycled paper (one time use ah!)
for the fashionable but eco-conscious folks.

Bag with a uniquely local flavour. Pun intended.

It was just timsum that day. Even though prices start from $4.50 per plate (steeper than those of most casual dinning establishments), portions were generous and the tim sum interestingly executed. Do not expect anything fine of course.

The lions have gotta hit the treadmill for tapas and bakes on a separate visit.

    1. Not at all :) Very affordable if you stick strictly to the tim sum dishes.
