The Rainbow Salpicon at The Missing Pan

The Missing Pan at Bukit Timah Road has got to be the lions' favourite brunch spot in the last leg of this year. It's run by passion and it shows. Warm service, unpretentious ambience, imaginative mood-lifting food and breads freshly made on the premises. You might want to check out the French Toast Salpicon, the lioness christens it the Rainbow Salpicon cos it makes her feel happy all over with its cheery riot of colours. It's like the savoury equivalent of a rainbow cake (sans the artificial colours!) that's sure to coax a smile out of even the most hardened sour puss.

The Missing Pan promises to deliver bread
that breaks with a hearty crackle.
The bakery occupies the first floor. Head up via lift to the brasserie
at the second floor for more substantial bites.
Even though The Missing Pan is stretched
over 2 floors, seats are surprisingly limited.
Reservations are a must!
The lions could have sat by this window. Wonder what inspired that wall
of drawers? Are we supposed to hunt for a missing pan? Lol.
Love the colours of this wood-pannelled
wall. Why do they remind the lion of
school? Weird.
The lions found themselves seated by the bustling open-concept kitchen.
It was the best seat, in their opinion. They revelled in their front-row
access to lively kitchen theatrics and meticulous dedication at work.
A new found respect for chefs at work.
Beetroot Quinoa Salad ($12).
The lion has an unexplainable love for this
earthy tuber. The lioness plain hates it. But
this was surprisingly palatable to her. Her
loss as her companion wolfed it down clean.
What to expect: candied beetroot,
arugula leaves, beet-soaked quinoa and
a crunchy flatbread stick.
Whad'ya know, they serve a mean
cup of coffee too.
So much happiness here. It's like a Jackson Pollack art piece when
the artist's on happy drugs. What's a Salpicon? It's a mixture
of chopped meat or vegetables in a sauce, used as fillings.
Learning something new everyday.
Pouring the syrup over the French Toast Salpicon ($19).
Chicken, spinach and mushroom stuffing.
Hearty and yummy. Sweet and savoury.
You know what, we just love the attention
to details here. This accompanying
strawberry-smoked maple syrup is a
piece de resistance in itself! It reminded the
lion of the peaty La Phroaig whisky or
a bourbon. No alcohol used here though!

Will be back to try the desserts. Really great brunch experience from the guys behind Upper Crust and The Organic Baker.
