The Incredible Not So Humble Eggs

The lions wanted to kick themselves for missing out on this artisanal gem hidden snugly in the basement of Katong Shopping Centre for much too long. The Humble Loaf serves probably the best egg dishes on the island at an incredible value. No prosaically ho-hum eggs benny here with a cringe-inducing price tag. Their range of bread baked in-house is also noteworthy and the coffee's very decent. Some precious kitchen alchemy going on behind this humble set-up that opened early last year.

The small and tight set-up seats around 15 pax comfortably and
items usually sell out fast.

The Shoyu Caramel Latte's unique but
the lions went for a straightforward latte to see
how it fared.

Rotating specials so regulars can look forward to
something new and different every visit.

Latte's good and robust but someone else steals the show.

Shoyu Caramel Brownie ($2). Finally a serious heavy weight contender,
albeit its puny size, beating even the lion's favourite version at Sarnies. 
Crusty top and dense chocolatey goodness without the cloying aftermath.

Not so Humble Eggs ($6). Jamon Serrano, chives, pickled celery and olives
on sous vide eggs with silky smooth whites and runny yolks. The explosion
of flavours on the palate is indescribable. Try not to lick the bowl clean. Tsk. Tsk.

Versus the Humble Eggs ($4). Sundried tomatoes, shoyu,
chives and chili oil? This is no shabby version though.
Done with sous vide eggs as well, relish the subtle play of
sweet, salty and hint of spicyness in the mouth.

Duck Rillette, Dijon Mustard and Berry Jam Sandwich ($8.50).
A little disappointing given the sparse spread of rillette on toasted
White Chiaseed Multigrain bread. But not too bad nonetheless.

Go early for brunch or be prepared to wait in line.

A cosy little hideout for brunch. Thumbs up for the wallet friendly prices. Grab a full loaf of artisanal bread home for the family at 6 dollars if you want.
