A Galilean BBQ on Stewords Riverboat

Modelled after the historic steamers that navigated the treacherous waterways of the Mississippi in the early 1800's carrying bales of cotton and other cargo, the Riverboat is as authentic as possible in every design detail, from the two chimney-like smoke stacks that stand tall above her decks, to the big red paddlewheel that adorns her stern. - See more at: http://www.riverboat.com.sg/#sthash.usd7SqQw.dpuf

The lions headed for a romantic sunset dinner during the long Good Friday weekend break on what must be the most unique but still pleasantly low key floating venue on this island. For nautical fans, the hard-to-reach locale should not be much of a deterrent. Stewords Riverboat, modelled after the historic steamers that navigated the waterways of the Mississippi in the early 1800s, was first built in 1991. Remember the floating A&W restaurant at Sentosa? Yup, it now houses Sante Fe Tex-Mex Grill and Breaking Bread on the waters of Marina South Pier. Admire details such as the chimney-like smoke stacks and gigantic red paddlewheel at the stern as you explore the steamer before your meal.

The ancient imperial style ship, Cheng Ho, docking alongside Stewords
Riverboat before it takes off into the evening waters with its diners onboard.
What a great juxtaposition! Two old style boats :) You can't get anywhere on the
riverboat though as it sits stationery on the waters. But the ambience is no less winning.

Imagine the intrepid Admiral Cheng Ho sailing off on a voyage of adventure
on this baby.
This will take you back to the 1800s where steamers carry
their bales of cotton and other cargo down the Mississippi
River. But just for the Good Friday weekend holiday,
Breaking Bread is hosting a special Galiean BBQ on its alfresco
upper deck. So it's back to the Holy Land yo!
The lions arrive early hoping to catch the sunset. They waited at the comfy
Sante Fe Tex-Mex restaurant as preparations were underway for the BBQ
on the upper deck after a wet Good Friday afternoon.
Cosy booth seats and dark wood beams and furnishings.
Loving the interior. Boat detailing is usually tedious and costly and we salute
the effort to maintain a dining destination like this on the island.
Very ideal for date nights and family gatherings. Suggestions online also
include holding thrilling theme dinners like a murder night in the tradition of
Agatha Christie novels. Eerily exciting hehehehe... ....
Exploring the steamer while the sun sets.
Look at the number of ships docked at the pier as well. Singapore's reputation
for being an excellent harbour and port has not diminished over the years.
At the bow of the boat. No cheesy Jack and Rose reenaction
please.
Yes, this million dollar view can be caught from
Stewords Riverboat. The venue should be a great
place to catch fireworks during special public occasions.
Thankful for the clear skies after the long shower earlier.
Sunset on a rather cloudy day.
The Galilean BBQ ($28++) comprises of a selection of 3 mains on top of
free flow starters and desserts. Very affordable considering the hearty starters
on display. Let's take a look at some of them.
We don't know if the wealthiest man on earth used to tuck
into this but the stew was chockful of generous cuts of meat
and beans. Some ingenious person recently taught us an
alternative for "hearty" and we shall use it here: "妈妈煮的".
(Translation: "what your mum would cook".)
Traditional Jewish braided bread. We don't know how
authentic this is but it tasted like the usual white bread to us.
Refreshing greens... ...
Each person is entitled to a selection of 3 mains. So, the lions had the pleasure
of tucking into 6 different mains! Practically covering all the available selections.
Other sides include the very delectable braised corn,
long grain caper rice, eggplant  and potatoes.
King Solomon's Stew dished out for the queen of the jungle.
We spot groups of families alongside couple dates.
Dusk falls.
John 15: 5 -  "I am the Vine; you are the branches.
Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much fruit."
St Peter's Fish with Parsley Compote, Mackerel Steak with
Celery Relish and Selar with Garlic, Lemon & Parsley.
The lions have to say that the fish were really fresh that
evening! Surprisingly good execution; perfectly grilled
and lightly seasoned to bring out natural flavours.
What a way to reminisce about the salty sea air of Galilee :)

The salmon fillet with mango salsa was supposed to arrive
on this plate, instead another selar was presented. But the
lions did not mind as the selar was good. Apricot Beef Kebab
and Mixed Spice Chicken Wings were its neighbours. The
beef kebab was lip smacking juicy but the lioness did not
fancy the spice on the wings though.

The night sets in.
Live acoustic singing against the twinkling backdrop of the Marina Bay Sands
and the Singapore Flyer.
Dessert of cinnamon crumble cake was satisfying
with watermelon to end the romantic meal.
We forgot to add that this complimentary side of parmesan wings was offered
that night through their facebook page. So you might want to check their site
occasionally for updates.
Thanks to the chefs labouring over the grill for the fantastic
evening.
